What is bought before you leave, item by item
- Eight nights in one cabin, which you see on a deck plan with your cabin marked before you agree
- All meals aboard, including the ones on the days the ship is moving
- A led walking excursion at most stops, included rather than sold to you at the desk on the morning
- Port charges and the river taxes, which are set by others and never discounted
- Getting between every place on the route, which on this trip is the ship itself
What is open, and who arranges it
- Drinks beyond the ones the fare covers, and the fare's coverage differs by operating company, so yours is named in the proposal
- The excursions that are offered as alternatives at some stops
- Anything ashore in your free afternoons
What the open part asks of you
- The river is the schedule. If the water is too high or too low the operating company may move you by coach for a stretch, or swap two stops, and it is entitled to
- Cabins are small. That is the format, not a grade
- Most of the walking is on cobbles, and the ship's gangway is a real consideration if stairs are hard
- Eight nights with the same forty people suits some travelers and not others. Say which you are and we will tell you honestly whether this is your trip
What it costs to change it or drop it, and whose rule that is
- The operating company's cancellation schedule is the strictest kind we deal with: it steps down from a full refund to nothing across the last months, and after the balance date the drop is quick
- A cabin can sometimes be re-graded rather than canceled, which costs less. We will price that before you decide
- Note. The whole trip is bought before you leave, so almost none of it can be released afterwards

- Which excursions are in the fare and which are not
